SUNJI / JAGIL INFORMATION NETWORK VILLAGE

Sunji information Network village

  • Jinmok-1(il)-ri of Namsa-myeon is an area in Namchon-myeon, Yongin-gun. During the merger and
abolition of the administrative area in 1914, Wolgyeong-ri, Ilbuk-myeon and a section of Masan-myeon in
Jinwui-gun were merged and renamed Jinmok-ri, after the oak tree pavilion.

SunjiVillage is also known as Sunmot, and the name, Sunji derives from a large pond that once sat in
the village, and for its large population of Korean parsley. At present, 40% of all households in the area
    cultivate cucumber.

Sunji is a typical farming region located in the southern section of Yongin. The cultivation of rice is
prevalent, but vegetable and flower complexes are on the increase. The area borders Yidong-myeon, Osan,
and Pyeongtaek to the west, Anseong to the south, and Dongtan-myeon of Hwaseong to the northwest.

Arterial roads (Seoul-Busan Expressway, National Highway No. 45, Local Highway No. 23) pass through
the region, and the Singal-Ansan Expressway, West Coast Expressway, and National Highway No. 1 all
connect to the region, making it highly accessible.

The special local product of the village, Sunji Cucumber, is cultivated with crystal clear water and exhibits
excellent taste due to the high percentage of sunshine it receives. The floricultural complex was
established to help local communities create profits.

  • The interesting thing about this village, that is noticeable even as you enter it, is the lack of livestock
farming and the prevalence of wastewater disposal facilities. Perhaps for those reasons, the environment
around the village is known to be particularly clean.

The water is also clean enough for children to safely play in. Like the alternative name of the village,
Cheongjeong Maeul, literally meaning Clean and Pure Village, suggests, the village is the cleanest
place in the already clean district of Wonsam-myeon, and the locals continue in their efforts to maintain its
    clean and healthy image.
There are hundreds of earthenware jars beside the town hall containing soybean and chilly pepper paste,
as the production of these products forms the major income source of the village. Visitors can experience
the making of such traditional sauces. Ssangyong Reservoir is famous for its excellent water quality.

Farmers enhance the quality of their rice products by acquiring certificates for the minimum use of
agricultural chemicals, and by using organic methods to farm, including the extensive use of geese. The
area is also known for its colored potatoes. The Ministry of Government Affairs and Home Affairs
designated HagilVillage as a project in the Areum Village Rearing Program in 2002, and the village has
since worked tirelessly to introduce traditional Korean culture and its unique products to the outside world.
All this work has been undertaken using environmentally friendly agricultural methods.

AreumVillage means a beautiful village and is also a pure Korean word, meaning the span of a
person's rounded arms. This suggests that Hagil is a farming village with affluence and a strong sense of
    community.
