In 1914, the entire area of Sujin-myeon, excluding the Jukjeon-ri and Jinae-myeon areas,
and Yeongtong-ri, were merged into a single district, named 'Suji-myeon'. The name
adopted 'Su' from Sujin-myeong, and 'Ji' from Jinae-myeon.
In reorganizing the local administrative system in 1895, during the 32nd year of the reign
of King Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty, Sujin-myeon administered ten ri and dong,
including Jukjeon-dong, Towol-ri, Woncheong-dong, Dongmak-ri, Songi-ri, Gobun-hyeon,
Seongbong-dong, Sin-ri, Jeongpyeong-ri, and Seongbok-dong. Jinae-myeon administered
six ri and dong including Sang-ri, Ha-ri, Uisang, Uiha, Deok-dong, and Yeong-tong.
In 1973, Jukjeon-ri of Guseong-myeon was incorporated into Suji, and in 1983, Yiui-ri and
Ha-ri were incorporated into Suwon-si. In 1996, Suji-myeon was promoted to Suji-eup, as
Yong'n-gun was being promoted to Yongin-si.
Many large-scale residential land development programs have taken place from the
beginning of the 1980's, beginning with the Districts No.1 and No.2 of Suji. Many original
villages have been replaced during this development phase.
