• In 1997, the Secretary of the Communist Party of the City of Yangzhou, China, Wu Dong Hua, recommended
  that Yongin establish a sisterhood relationship with his city, through Il-yang Pharm's Chinese corporation in
  Yangzhou.
• After three years of exchanging letters and mutual visits, both parties recognized the necessity not only of
  the economic exchange based on commercial cooperation, but also of exchanges in many other areas,
  including administration, culture, and sports

• The Yongin delegation, comprised of seven representatives, including the deputy mayor, Han Seok-gyu,
  established the first sisterhood relationship of Yongin with a foreign city, that of Yangzhou, on May 10th, 2000
  during their May 9th to 12th, 2000 visit to Yangzhou.
• Yangzhou is located in the center of JiangsuProvince, and has three prefecture level cities, one prefecture,
  three administrative districts, and a population of 4.7 million people. The city has undergone rapid recent
  growth as a new industrial city along with enormous advancements in the automobile, shipbuilding, and
  mechanical industries
• Through the international sisterhood relationship, both cities have promised to
  
  • Promote mutual cooperation through joint investment and through jointly luring foreign investment
  • Promote academic exchange through the collection and research of data relating to the establishment of
    the museum of 'Choi Chi-won' of the Silla Dynasty
  • provide significant support to a student exchange program and academic conferences in order to create an
    active exchange network between universities in both cities
  • Build the foundation for the advancement of prosperity of both cities as partners in the global age, through
    cooperation in a number of fields, including the economy, administration, culture, and education. To this
    end, performances of cultural organizations of both cities shall tour and perform for the other
    Agreement on the Establishment of Sisterhood between Yangzhou, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China
    and Yongin, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea
